Easingwold Friends of Cancer Research UK...

Another year of fundraising by the Easingwold Friends of Cancer Research UK is drawing to a close. This year has been particularly good in that we have raised over £12,000.

It has been helped by having the Turning Easingwold Pink week which brought in a staggering £8, 500. and involved many of our local shops and businesses.

It also brought many people together as they walked, ran, stood with collecting tins, baked, sewed and knitted, with one aim in sight - to cure cancer.

There has been a heart warming documentary on television recently called Cancer Detectives which has been made by Cancer Research UK.

It followed the lives of three scientists and showed how their work is adding to the knowledge of cancer and how it thrives.

It also gives us hope for the future as it described the success they have had by finding a vaccine for lung cancer and the progress made in treating brain tumours.

All the time cures and treatments that work are being discovered. One scientist even went so far as to say that she can see the beginnings of the end of cancer. What a wonderful goal.

We are all doing our part as we recognize how cancer affects so many of us and our loved ones.
